This was the second week of a very exciting and engaging experiment. Last week, as previously mentioned I began delivering the #phonarnation photography course at Bridgewater House Centre for Aslyum Seekers.
I wasn’t sure how the second week would work. Would there be any participants? fewer? more? Thankfully, aside from a few temporary absences, there were five new faces.
The courses that are running in the USA are taking part in an “book-in-a-box” scheme, which is a really nice idea. Youths in one location get to review some great contemporary photography books and they create a journal of their thoughts. The journal is added to the box as it makes its way to the next location, where the new viewers read the journal, add their thoughts, and so-on.
Although we couldn’t participate officially, being on the wrong side of the Atlantic, we decided to host an impromptu photography book viewing and although time was limited, we managed to make two video reviews. Eucharia and Catherina gave their thoughts on Walker Evans’ “Hungry Eye” and a Photo Poche edition of Henri Cartier Bresson, respectively.
And in the first of a two part post, here’s Eucharia giving her thoughts on Walker Evans seminal volume, “Hungry Eye”.
